Web hosting is intended for everyday communication and automatic messages from your website (order confirmations, a contact form). To keep spam from being sent out of one server and to protect the reputation of all customers, there is a limit on sending mail.
What the limit is
- For one email account, the limit is 500 emails per day via SMTP.
- Neither the size of mailboxes nor the total space for emails is limited. Only the number of sent messages is limited.
- After the limit is exceeded, further messages may be rejected or held until the next day.
What counts toward the limit
All messages sent via SMTP from the given account count toward the limit, including messages sent from your website (forms, online store) if they log in to this mailbox. To be safe, count each recipient separately: a message sent to 50 addresses may count as 50 emails.
Newsletters and bulk mailing
To send newsletters and marketing messages, use a dedicated mailing service. It takes care of unsubscribing, deliverability tracking, and compliance with legal rules. The advantage is that your regular business email stays safe.
- If you use such a service, add it to the SPF and DKIM of your domain.
- Send only to people who have agreed to it, and always offer a simple way to unsubscribe.
Messages from the website do not arrive or end up in spam
- Check that the application sends via SMTP with login to a real mailbox on your domain, not anonymously.
- Use an address on your own domain as the sender.
- Verify SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
