Once the period for which the domain name was ordered runs out, the domain expires. For .cz domains, the domain does not stop working on the day of expiration, and the owner does not change
either. The period after a domain expires is called the “grace period”. This period lasts 60 days and is divided into two phases. For the first 30 days after expiration the domain keeps working (it is still listed in the CZ zone), and for the remaining 30 days it is removed from the CZ zone and stops working. Throughout the grace period, however, you can still renew the domain or transfer it to another registrar.
Note: The grace period exists so that a renewal can still succeed if complications arise, so we strongly advise against leaving the start of your domain renewal until this period.
The domain expiration notification process works as follows:
- 30 days before the domain expires, the customer receives an expiration notice by email together with a payment request
- and then every 4 days the customer receives an email reminder about the unpaid service
