HTTP

‹ Glossary

This protocol, whose full name is HyperText Transfer Protocol, is used together with XML and serves to run all internet services.

Together with the email protocol, it is the most widely used protocol; over the last 20 years it has seen enormous growth, and practically everything on the internet works through it.

Among other things, the protocol makes it possible to transfer information either encrypted (HTTPS) or unencrypted (HTTP) using several methods it supports (GET, POST).

HTTP also uses the URL as one of its services, which includes, for example, the domain.

Use

In a web browser, HTTP access is done by adding http:// before the domain name.

One of the services this protocol makes possible is the use of so-called HTTP cookies, which let the user's computer keep information about the state of the connection.
